Thanks For Putting Gas In My Tank!
Hello Everyone….
I would like to say thanks to those of you who came out to show some love at the Riverfront February 20th…।we were small in number but large at heart! I really appreciate the support of my fans…u guys keep me motivated and striving to move forward in the music business!
Sometimes when you embark on a journey, you know that the trip will be long....but you may not think about when your car may become empty and you have to refuel your tank! When your tank is almost empty the car may not move as fast as it typically would if it was full. When this happens you may not see any stations in sight, but you continue on any way hoping and praying you don’t run out of gas before you find a station. Finally there’s one in sight and when you make it there you feel a sign of relief and you gain the confidence to continue on your journey!!!
I said all that to say…having the support of my fans whether small or large in number fuels my tank and gives me the confidence to continue on my journey to success!
Thank you guys soooo much for fueling my tank! I hope this inspires you to continue on your journey too! Know that you can do it! Lets do it together!
Peace and love,
Rachel

I am writing in response to a blog post I saw here: http://www.melodika.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7350&Itemid=1. I was unable to locate a direct contact button on her site, so decided to post my feedback here.
As the coordinator of a statewide network of domestic violence programs, I was taken aback by the message that Rachel Brown is conveying to domestic violence victims. By saying that "if you develop a concept of self love, a true love and care for yourself, you soon learn that staying becomes detrimental to your well being, thus you can find that courage to move on with your life," Brown conveys the impression that victims can, simply by working on their self-esteem, safely escape domestic violence. The reality is that the point when domestic violence victims attempt to leave their abusive partners is the most dangerous point in an abusive relationship (over 60% of victims who are seriously injured or killed by their partners have these things happen to them whent hey are attempting to escape the abuse and end the relationship). Further, the suggestion that working on one's self esteem would be an effective path to end domestic violence really removes the blame from the real perpetrators: the abusers. A victim, happy or not, feeling good about herself or not, is going to continue to be victimized as long as her abuser continues to abuse (exert power and control over) her. The message Ms. Brown is sending with her song "Learn to Love Me" and her comments in the cited blog post is a dangerous one that blames victims for what has happened to them, and suggests a route out of victimization that is unlikely to lead to safety. I urge her to rethink her message to domestic violence victims, and offer some concrete information and links to supportive services. Thanks so much.
